Commonwealth Bank’s Position on ATM Fraud
12 November 2002

Following recent media attention on an ATM scam that occurred at a St George Bank over the weekend of 9 to 11 November 2002, the Commonwealth Bank’s position is:

The Bank has received no reports of any such incidents affecting Commonwealth Bank ATMs.

The Bank takes security matters very seriously and has a range of measures in place to protect customer funds. It is always reviewing and improving security, although there will be incidents where dishonest people find ways around the security.

The Bank is cooperating with the NSW Police and the St George Bank to identify any Commonwealth Bank customers whose accounts may have been used through the St George machine.

The Commonwealth Bank advises all ATM users to report any unusual appearance or operation of an ATM or unusual activity on their account to the Bank by calling 1800 023 919.
