Social welfare

The Commonwealth Bank offers support to the more vulnerable members of our society through partnerships with organisations that actively help those in need.

These partnerships enable us to offer financial and hands-on support to the people who need it the most.

Australian Business and Community Network
The Australian Business and Community Network (ABCN) inspires, challenges and engages businesses to have a greater positive impact in the community. As a member of the ABCN, the Commonwealth Bank helps run programs that mentor students, provide support and mentoring for high school principals, and support reading and literacy for students.

Wesley Mission
We support the Wesley Mission’s Disability Services Life Skills program, which encourages employment through education for people with moderate to severe intellectual or physical disability.

We were also proud to support Wesley Mission’s first National Christmas Appeal in 2007. In addition to collecting much needed funds, our people donated more than 700 Christmas hampers, helping individuals and families in need enjoy their festive season.

Create Foundation
Create Foundation is an Australian non-profit organisation that empowers children and young people placed in out-of-home care. Through the Young Consultants program, we help Create train young adults leaving the care system to be peer mentors for children who are still in foster care.

Legacy
The Commonwealth Bank has supported Legacy since 1998. During the past decade, our assistance has helped Legacy Day raise more than $25 million to provide widows, children and people with disabilities with essential services such as counselling, special housing and social support.

Disaster appeals and fundraising
The Commonwealth Bank is a proud supporter of the Australian Red Cross’ major annual fundraising appeal, Red Cross Calling, by accepting donations in our branches throughout March.

We are also a national appeal partner of the Australian Red Cross and other government and community relief organisations, facilitating donations in crucial times of need such as the 2007 Rainy Day Foundation appeal for drought relief. In addition, our branch network support hundreds of local community appeals each year.
